Jiu Jitsu

Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that teaches you to defend yourself using your body and mind, without the need for weapons. The objective of jiu jitsu is to bring the opponent to the ground and make him perform with pressing, twisting or choking techniques on his joints or neck. Jiu Jitsu is a combat sport, but also a way of life that helps you build your confidence, discipline and respect.

Jiu jitsu is divided into four main parts: foot techniques, ground techniques, transition techniques, and self defense techniques.
- Standing techniques are the ones you use to throw the opponent to the ground, using your arms, your legs or your hip. For example, you can push it with your foot, lift it with your waist, or flip it over with your arm.
- Ground techniques are the ones you use to control the opponent on the ground, using your weight, your arms or your legs. For example, you can put your knee on his stomach, wrap your legs around his arm, or wrap your arm around his neck.
- The transition techniques are the ones you use to change position on the ground, seeking to improve your situation or get out of a bad one. For example, you can twist your body, lift your hips, or move your legs.
- Self-defense techniques are those you use to respond to real situations of danger, such as attacks with fists, kicks, grabs or weapons. For example, you can block a blow, twist an arm, throw the attacker, or take his weapon away.

Jiu jitsu has a scoring system that rewards actions you perform on the ground. Points are awarded as follows:
-2 points for throwing the opponent to the ground or for reversing his position.
- 3 points for passing the opponent's guard, which is when he has his legs between you and him.
- 4 points for riding the opponent, which is when you sit on him or take his back with your legs.
- Advantage for almost achieving a position or a surrender.
The competition ends when one of the contestants subdues the other with a submission technique or when time runs out. If there is a tie in points and advantages, the referee decides who wins according to his criteria.

Grappling

Grappling is a form of fighting that involves controlling the opponent through the use of grips with the hands, arms, legs, and body. Grappling does not allow blows, but focuses on taking the opponent to the ground and submitting him with strangulation, pressure or lever techniques on his joints.

Grappling requires skill, intelligence, and physical stamina, as it involves leveraging your opponent's strength and weight against you. Grappling encompasses different martial disciplines such as Jiu jitsu, judo, wrestling, sambo and wrestling, which have their own rules and styles.

Grappling can be practiced as a competitive sport or as a personal defense, since it is very effective to neutralize an aggressor without causing serious damage. Grappling is a martial art that encourages respect, discipline and self-improvement.

MMA

MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts, which means Mixed Martial Arts. MMA is a combat sport that allows the use of a wide variety of fighting styles and techniques, both standing and on the ground. MMA combines striking techniques, such as punches, kicks, knees, and elbows, with submission techniques, such as holds, chokes, and pressing.

MMA has its origins in the ancient Greek pankration and Roman pankration competitions, which were fights without rules or limits. Modern MMA developed from various events and tournaments that sought to pit different fighting styles and martial arts against each other, such as Brazilian vale tudo, Japanese shoot wrestling, and American ultimate fighting. MMA became popular thanks to the creation of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), which is the most important and recognized organization in this sport.

MMA is practiced on a ring or an octagon, which is an octagon-shaped cage that protects fighters from falling or leaving the combat area. The wrestlers wear special gloves that leave the fingers free to grab the opponent, a mouth guard, a groin guard, and short or tight pants. MMA has a scoring system that rewards the actions that fighters take in combat. The points are given according to the criteria of the judges, who value aspects such as control, aggressiveness, damage and defense.

The match ends when one of the fighters manages to submit the other through a submission technique or when the referee stops the match by knockout, verbal submission, injury or medical intervention. If the fight does not end before the established time, which is usually three rounds of five minutes each or five rounds in the case of title fights, the winner is decided by decision of the judges based on accumulated points.
